  • Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini – Terroir from the Heart of the Côte de Nuits

    by Marco Fuchs

The Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini is located in Gevrey-Chambertin on the Côte de Nuits and is run by Florence Heresztyn and Simon Mazzini. On about six hectares, they primarily produce Pinot Noirs that focus on elegance, freshness, and the character of their respective origins.

    Gevrey-Chambertin in Focus

The domaine's clear focus is on Gevrey-Chambertin. In addition, they own vineyards in Brochon, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Chambolle-Musigny. The range extends from Bourgogne and Village wines, through several Premier Crus, to the Clos-Saint-Denis Grand Cru.

In the vineyard, Heresztyn-Mazzini relies on organic farming and biodynamic methods. Green cover crops, living soils, and the most precise handling possible of each plot are part of the estate's philosophy. The work in the cellar is also restrained, so that fruit, structure, and terroir remain in the foreground.

Pinot Noir with a refined signature

The Domaine's Pinot Noirs combine concentration with finesse. Depending on the site, they show red and dark fruits, floral notes, fine spice, and a precise tannin structure. During vinification, whole clusters are sometimes used, which gives the wines additional freshness, structure, and length.

Particularly exciting are the various Gevrey-Chambertin, including Vieilles Vignes and Premier Cru sites such as La Perrière, Les Goulots, and Les Champonnets. They show how differently Pinot Noir can turn out even within a single commune.
