Synonyms: White Riesling, Rhine Riesling

Riesling is one of the world's most important white wine varieties. First mentioned in Rüsselsheim in 1435, the "King of White Wines" likely originated from wild vines in the Upper Rhine region. It reaches world-class status particularly along the Rhine and Moselle rivers, but also in the Wachau and Alsace. Riesling wines are characterized by lively acidity, aromas of stone fruit and citrus, and mineral notes reminiscent of slate or flint. They are versatile, ranging from dry to sweet, and age well, often developing a characteristic petrol note.

Incidentally, despite their similar names, Riesling is not closely related to Welschriesling.
