Franconia

Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Kerner, Bacchus, Pinot Noir, and more: In Franconia – the northern part of the state of Bavaria – the sheer number of common white wine varieties is impressive. This very scattered wine region with its varied history enjoys a reputation as a heartland for dry, earthy white wines. And although the region has suffered particularly from climate change in recent years, the quality of its wines continues to steadily improve.

The leading grape varieties in Franconia are Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau, both slightly acidic and harmonious, the former more floral, the latter more easy-drinking. Riesling is also enjoying steadily growing popularity. And finally, the quality of red wines in the region has been steadily improving for years.
