Rheinhessen is Germany's largest wine-growing region, and describing it in a single sentence is essentially impossible. Under the designation "Rheinhessen" lies a medley of long wine traditions and correspondingly extraordinary variation, from world-class wines near Oppenheim to chalk-dominated soils near Worms.

Riesling is the most cultivated grape variety in Rheinhessen, but the traditional Silvaner, as well as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, should also not be forgotten. Red wines like Pinot Noir are also increasingly cultivated in Rheinhessen.
