Rheinhessen
Rheinhessen is Germany's largest wine-growing region – and describing it in a single sentence is virtually impossible. The name "Rheinhessen" encompasses a diverse range of long wine traditions and correspondingly extraordinary variations, from world-class wines near Oppenheim to limestone-dominated soils near Worms.
Riesling is the most widely cultivated grape variety in Rheinhessen, but the traditional Silvaner, as well as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, should not be overlooked. Red wines such as Pinot Noir are also increasingly cultivated in Rheinhessen.
