Gelber Muskateller (Yellow Muscat) is an ancient grape variety (perhaps even one of the oldest) from the Mediterranean region. This grape variety, already cultivated by the Romans, is a racy and piquant representative of the Muscat family, which is gaining increasing popularity worldwide, especially in Austria. The bouquet is intense with floral accents, grape and citrus notes, and a characteristic Muscat aroma; however, if not sufficiently ripe, it can be thin and acidic. The variety is demanding to cultivate, susceptible to rot, and has unreliable yields. Dry, lean, and well-structured, Muscatel is particularly suitable as an aperitif and with appetizers.
