Alsace
Compared to the rest of France, Alsace wine is different – somewhat more "German," which is self-explanatory given the region's history. Nevertheless, despite its similarities to German wine, Alsace offers its own distinct style, generally resulting in wines that are more robust and sweeter than those from the right bank of the Rhine.
The most important grape varieties in Alsace are Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer. Alsace is also known for its Crémant – a less sparkling alternative to Champagne.
