The Château Faugères – Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé 2018 impresses with its dense, velvety ruby red color and an opulent bouquet of blackberry jelly, black cherries, graphite, roasted coffee beans, and a hint of mint . The nose also reveals fine peppery notes and a subtle, almost candied fruit , underscored by chalky minerals and licorice .
On the palate, this Bordeaux blend unfolds with concentrated, creamy fruit of blueberries, blackcurrants, and a delicate hint of vanilla – supported by fine-grained, perfectly integrated tannins and a fresh, saline acidity . The finish is long, full of sweet aftertastes and an almost muscular yet elegant structure . A powerful, modern Saint-Émilion with great depth, already captivating, but destined to age beautifully until 2038 and beyond.
Château Faugéres comprises 42 hectares of homogeneous vineyards with prime terroir in the Saint-Émilion region. The vines extend across the plateau with Asterian limestone from the Lower Oligocene and across the south-southeast-facing slopes with limestone and clay-limestone molasse from the Upper Eocene and Oligocene.
The Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion is a Bordeaux blend consisting of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The tanks are filled by gravity, and cold maceration is carried out in wooden fermentation tanks with temperature control.
Fermentation and a gentle, three-week mash fermentation with malolactic fermentation, 50% in new barriques.
The vines are on average 35 years old. The planting density is approximately 6,600 vines/ha. The "wine cathedral" designed by Mario Botta, with its high-tech, gravity-fed systems, contributes to the splendor of the magnificent terroir.
