Whether Beaujolais belongs to Burgundy is a matter of debate among connoisseurs. However, the granitic soils and warm climate here create completely different wines: the red Gamay grape dominates, and the wines are fruity, lively, and often uncomplicated. The Crus like Fleurie or Morgon show, however, that Beaujolais can also offer depth and complexity - albeit in its own unique style.
