Meyer-Näkel/Quinta da Carvalhosa – Ardosino 2019

In 2000, Werner Näkel, together with his two friends Bernd Philippi (Köhler-Ruprecht Winery) and Bernhard Breuer (Georg Breuer Winery/Rheingau), acquired Quinta da Carvalhosa in northern Portugal – with vineyards belonging to the top tier of the Portuguese classification system. The idyllic estate comprises approximately 8 hectares of steep slopes, whose vines, some up to 50 years old, are planted in the traditional mixed planting of the grape varieties Tinta Barocca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Francesa.

The Ardosino 2019 consists of four Portuguese grape varieties: Tinta Barrocca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa.

The wine is fermented using both traditional methods in mash tuns and in the so-called "lagares," the Portuguese granite basins. Great emphasis is placed on a traditional and gentle aging process. The Ardosino then matures for approximately 15 months in French oak barrels and is bottled unfiltered.
