Position

The soils in the Vallée de la Marne are diverse and shape the character of the wines. They mainly consist of clay, limestone and chalk, which provides the vines with optimal conditions. The chalky soils in particular store water and release it when required, which helps the roots to penetrate deep into the earth even in dry periods. This mineral-rich soil structure gives the Champagnes their characteristic freshness, fine acidity and a complex minerality that is typical of the region.

Grape varieties

Pinot Meunier is a red grape variety that is particularly popular in Champagne, where it is often used together with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for the production of Champagne. It is characterized by fruity aromas and a mild acidity, which gives the wines freshness and lightness. Due to its resistance to cooler temperatures, Pinot Meunier is particularly cultivated in the Vallée de la Marne. It produces wines that are accessible early and pleasantly fruity.
