The Château Faugères – Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé 2022 shines with a deep, impenetrable ruby red color and shimmering violet reflections. On the nose, an opulent bouquet unfolds, featuring ripe black cherries, wild berries, licorice, and a delicate orange zest, underscored by floral notes, chocolate, and a hint of nougat. The mineral depth of the terroir brings fine chalky notes and a subtle spiciness of licorice and fresh pepper.
On the palate, this Bordeaux blend is powerful yet silky – the dense, creamy fruit of plum and blackcurrant is supported by vibrant acidity and fine-grained, velvety tannins. The finish is impressively long, with a saline freshness and an elegant balance between sweet berries, bitter mint chocolate, and an almost stony minerality. A masterpiece of concentration, energy, and finesse, perfectly capturing the typical character of the 2022 vintage and destined to age until 2050.
Château Faugéres comprises 42 hectares of homogeneous vineyards with prime terroir in the Saint-Émilion region. The vines extend across the plateau with Asterian limestone from the Lower Oligocene and across the south-southeast-facing slopes with limestone and clay-limestone molasse from the Upper Eocene and Oligocene.
The Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion is a Bordeaux blend consisting of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The tanks are filled by gravity, and cold maceration is carried out in wooden fermentation tanks with temperature control.
Fermentation and a gentle, three-week mash fermentation with malolactic fermentation, 50% in new barriques.
The vines are on average 35 years old. The planting density is approximately 6,600 vines/ha. The "wine cathedral" designed by Mario Botta, with its high-tech, gravity-fed systems, contributes to the splendor of the magnificent terroir.
