Rheingau

While Riesling dominates the Moselle region, it holds almost absolute power in the Rheingau: a good 80% of the total vineyard area in this region between the Taunus Mountains and the Middle Rhine is dedicated to the king of white wines – the remainder is predominantly Pinot Blanc. Calcareous, deep soils and a relatively mild climate result in wines with low acidity and full aromas, clearly distinguishing them from wines of the Moselle and Palatinate. The Rheingau is in many respects a historical center of German viticulture, which has retained its distinctive character to this day.
