Lage
The soil in Southern Styria often consists of a type called "Opok." Opok is a marly, calcareous, sedimentary rock formation. This soil type is particularly suitable for viticulture because it allows for good drainage. Some vineyards may also be characterized by gravelly soils, which also promote good water permeability.
Rebsorten
The general flavor profile of Chardonnay wines includes aromas of green apples, citrus fruits, peaches, and often tropical fruits. Depending on the winemaking process, Chardonnay can also exhibit notes of butter, vanilla, or toasted oak, especially when aged in barrels (barrique).
