Southern Styria is one of Austria's most renowned wine regions, characterized by steep slopes, sun-drenched terraces, and a Pannonian-Mediterranean climate. The soils, composed of slate, limestone, and sandstone, impart vibrant acidity, minerality, and complex fruit aromas to the wines. Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon, and Welschriesling, in particular, thrive here.
Although Pinot Noir (also known as Blauburgunder) isn't one of Styria's classic wines, it has been gaining ground in recent years. It impresses with its delicate and elegant character, red berry aromas, fine acidity, mild tannins, and light to medium body.
