  • Weiser-Künstler – Great Rieslings from the steep slopes of the Mosel

    1 comment by Marco Fuchs

The Weiser-Künstler winery, run by Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler, is one of the most exciting addresses for characterful Riesling from the Mosel. Since 2005, the two have cultivated some of the most impressive steep slopes around Enkirch and Traben-Trarbach. The focus is on old vines, slate soils, and a clear idea: to produce wines that reflect their origin as authentically as possible.

Old Vines and Grand Cru Mosel Sites

Among the most important vineyards of Weiser-Künstler are the Enkircher Ellergrub and the Trabener Gaispfad. In these historic, unparcelled steep slopes, some over 100-year-old, ungrafted Riesling vines grow. In addition, there are sites such as Enkircher Zeppwingert, Steffensberg, and Trarbacher Schlossberg.

The work in these steep parcels is elaborate and largely done by hand. Weiser-Künstler operates with EU organic certification and places great importance on living soils and the most natural winemaking possible.

    The Weiser-Künstler Style

Weiser-Künstler's Rieslings are less about power and more about finesse, minerality, and tension. Cool fruit, citrus notes, herbs, and the typical slate spice meet precise acidity. Even the fruit-sweet wines remain light-footed and fresh as a result.

The winery is particularly known for its Kabinett and Spätlese Rieslings. The delicate residual sweetness is supported by a lively acidity – a balance for which the Mosel is appreciated worldwide. In addition, dry Rieslings are produced, where the differences between the individual sites become particularly clear.

    Enkircher Ellergrub & Trabener Gaispfad

The Enkircher Ellergrub is closely associated with Weiser-Künstler. Its old vines produce Rieslings that combine elegance and lightness with astonishing depth. The Trabener Gaispfad, on the other hand, often appears somewhat firmer, stonier, and particularly mineral.

Anyone who tries both sites side by side gets an excellent impression of how different Mosel Riesling can be despite small geographical distances.

    Discover Weiser-Künstler Riesling

Weiser-Künstler stands for a unique interpretation of the Mosel: old vines, historic steep slopes, organic viticulture, and an uncompromising focus on Riesling. Whether it's a dry single-vineyard wine, a delicate Kabinett, or an elegant Spätlese – these wines combine depth with a lightness typical of great Mosel Rieslings.

Anyone looking for precise, mineral, and distinctive Rieslings should definitely get to know Weiser-Künstler. You can find Weiser-Künstler wines at Trinkvergnügen HERE.
