Position

The Gamlitz wine region is characterized by its gently rolling landscape with steep vineyards and sandy and gravelly soils interspersed with pebbles and calcareous marl. The vineyards lie at altitudes of 320 to 550 meters and benefit from warm, bowl-shaped slopes and cool hillsides. The wines, especially Sauvignon Blanc and Welschriesling, display ripe fruit aromas, delicate vegetal notes, and a refined acidity.

Grape varieties

King meets archduke: Riesling is found in Styria, particularly near the municipality of Kitzeck-Sausal, where it scores points as a typical single-vineyard wine with expressive character, clear fruit, and minerality. But the king of white wines also populates many a corner of the volcanic region.

This is what Hannes says about the wine:Maitz – Rheinriesling Ried Hochstermetzberg GSTK 2020

One of the oldest wineries in Styria, hence the minimalist, old-school wine label. The Hochstermetzberg vineyard is a very special site; the Riesling is truly powerful. Full-bodied, yet delicate on the finish. This is something truly "rustic" from Southern Styria.
