Position
The soils in the Chablis region consist mainly of Kimmeridgian limestone, a mixture of limestone and fossils. These mineral-rich soils are ideal for growing Chardonnay and give the wines their characteristic freshness and minerality. The high presence of chalk and shell limestone ensures excellent drainage and allows the vines to root deeply. These unique soils contribute significantly to the fine structure and complexity of Chablis wines, which often shine with a salty note.
Grape varieties
Chardonnay is one of the world's most popular and versatile white wine varieties. Originally from the Burgundy region of France, it is now grown in almost every wine-growing region in the world. Chardonnay grapes are known for their adaptability to different climatic conditions and soils. The wines range from light and fresh to rich and buttery, often with aromas of green apples, citrus fruits and tropical notes. Whether matured in steel tanks or oak barrels, Chardonnay offers a wide range of taste experiences.
