Frequently asked questions about champagne

Champagne must originate from the French region of Champagne and is produced according to the traditional Méthode Champenoise, which includes a second fermentation in the bottle. This gives Champagne its characteristic bubbles and complex aromas.

The main grape varieties for Champagne are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. These grape varieties can be used alone or as a blend to create different styles of Champagne.

Champagne should be served well chilled at around 6-8°C. Tall, slender glasses (flutes) are best to showcase the delicate bubbles and aromas.

Champagne is versatile and pairs perfectly with light appetizers, seafood, sushi, and even fried foods. Rosé champagne harmonizes particularly well with red fruit desserts.

Most non-vintage champagnes should be enjoyed within 3-4 years of purchase. Vintage champagnes, on the other hand, can age for many years under optimal storage conditions, developing deeper and more complex aromas.
