Description
The Sauvignon Blanc from the single vineyard Kozana impressively demonstrates how distinctive and profound Sauvignon Blanc from the Slovenian Brda region can be. The lime and marl-rich soils ("Opoka") around Kozana give the wine a striking mineral tension and an almost Burgundian structure. Edi Simčič deliberately avoids loud Sauvignon aromatics, focusing instead on elegance, texture, and origin.
In 2020, the wine appears calm and complex, with enormous depth and astonishing freshness simultaneously. Instead of superficial exoticism, the focus is on fine herbal spice, mineral pressure, and a very precise structure. With aeration, the wine develops additional tension and an almost salty length, which makes it particularly characterful.
The aging in oak barrels is perfectly integrated and adds complexity without overshadowing the origin of the site. This makes the Kozana Single Vineyard seem very refined and international at the same time – a Sauvignon Blanc with Burgundian elegance, a lot of structure, and a long, mineral finish.
