Jérôme Galeyrand's 2022 Aligoté "Chaumont" impressively demonstrates how precise and characterful Aligoté can be in Burgundy. The calcareous soils lend the wine a fine saline minerality and a cool, linear structure. Galeyrand works very terroir-driven and minimalistically, which makes the wine appear particularly transparent and lively.
The 2022 vintage is open and juicy, yet incredibly focused and refined. Instead of simple freshness or overt fruit, the "Chaumont" clearly emphasizes tension, precision, and an almost stony clarity. It is precisely this combination of energy and elegance that gives the wine its special character.
The winemaking is deliberately restrained and puristic, so that the origin and grape variety remain uncompromisingly in the foreground. As a result, the Bourgogne Aligoté shows a very precise Burgundian style – mineral, lively, and with a long, salty-fresh finish.
