"Les Champeaux" is one of the highest situated and most elegant Premier Cru sites in Gevrey-Chambertin. The limestone- and stone-rich soils impart an exceptionally precise minerality and a cool, almost ethereal structure to the Pinot Noir. Domaine Jean Fournier deliberately interprets the site in a puristic, terroir-driven manner – focusing on transparency, energy, and Burgundian finesse rather than sheer power.
In 2023, the Premier Cru presents itself as incredibly lively and focused, yet deeply and harmoniously structured. The Pinot Noir combines juicy red and darker fruit with subtle spice, silky texture, and vibrant freshness. Despite its concentration, the wine never appears heavy or massive, but incredibly precise and elegant. It is precisely this combination of Gevrey depth and cool finesse that makes "Les Champeaux" particularly fascinating.
