Position
The soils in this region are primarily composed of calcareous deposits and slate. The combination of these soil types creates a unique terroir that provides ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grape varieties. The calcareous soils enhance the elegance and minerality of the wines, while the slate soils contribute to the diversity of aromas and complexity. Terroir plays a crucial role in shaping the character and quality of the wines produced in this area.
Grape varieties
The first top wine to leave Leo HILLINGER's winery was named HILL1. This blend of Merlot, Blaufränkisch, and Zweigelt displays a garnet red color with brick-colored edges in the glass. A diverse array of aromas emanates from the glass: dark fruits, blackcurrants, cherries, and blueberries, surrounded by subtle balsamic and black tea tones, giving the wine an earthy scent. These earthy aromas continue on the palate, where the wine presents itself as dry, with pleasantly supportive acidity and full-bodied tannins. Flavors of tea, balsamic, and berry tones are evident, with a long finish that maintains perfect balance. Aged for 24 months in new French oak, comprising 50% Merlot, 25% Blaufränkisch, and 25% Zweigelt. Organically grown – certified according to AT BIO 302. Contains sulfites.
