red wine

Red wine production is quite complex compared to white wine: the red color arises from the contact of the grape juice with the must from the grape skins. However, if the wine is stored for too long, it quickly becomes bitter. And this, combined with the numerous aging and fermentation possibilities, the selection of the right yeast, and the maturation period, results in a wine category that, while highly complex and prone to error, simultaneously offers unexpected depth in style and character. It is therefore no surprise that it is usually red wines, with their complexity and personality, that are sought after in the rare wine market.

Well-known red wine varieties include, for example, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, the Italian Sangiovese, Zweigelt, and the Burgenland Blaufränkisch.

An opened bottle of red wine can be stored in a cool, dark place for an average of 3-5 days. The flavor is best preserved if the bottle is tightly resealed.

Traditionally, red wine is served at room temperature, typically between 15-20°C. However, some lighter red wines, such as Pinot Noir, can be served slightly chilled to better bring out their fruity aromas.

A standard bottle of wine (750 ml) contains approximately five glasses of 150 ml each.

Red wine should be served at a temperature of around 15-20°C. This helps to optimally present the aromas and flavor.

Red wines pair well with a variety of foods, including grilled meats, hearty stews, pasta dishes, and strong cheeses. However, the specific wine and recommended pairings can vary.
