Description
With Les Rugiens, the Domaine owns a parcel in one of Pommard's most esteemed Premier Cru sites. The iron-rich clay and limestone soils produce Pinot Noir with exceptional depth, structure, and longevity. Rugiens is one of those sites that impressively demonstrates how much power and finesse Pommard can produce.
For the 2023 vintage, Joannès Violot-Guillemard consistently employs whole cluster fermentation. The wine was vinified 100% with whole clusters. During subsequent aging, ceramic vessels were used in addition to wooden barrels. This differentiated aging supports the balance between structure, freshness, and clear fruit, while allowing sufficient room for the unique character of the site.
The result is a sophisticated Premier Cru that does not deny Pommard's powerful side, but rather combines it with precision and elegance. Les Rugiens is one of the winery's most significant wines and is clearly designed for development – a Pinot Noir with depth, tension, and excellent aging potential.
The Domaine Violot-Guillemard has been closely associated with Pommard for several generations. Joannès gradually took over responsibility from his father Thierry in 2019 and continues his consistently terroir-focused philosophy. The vineyards have been organically farmed since 1999. In the cellar, the focus is less on a uniform style and more on highlighting the character of each individual parcel as clearly as possible.
