Description
The Volnay “Vieilles Vignes” 2023 showcases a different side of the Domaine than the more robust wines from Pommard. Volnay is traditionally known for particularly delicate and elegant Pinot Noirs. The old vines of this cuvée additionally bring concentration and depth, without losing the typical finesse-driven character of the appellation.
The 2023 vintage particularly supports this combination. Ripe fruit and a supple structure meet with enough freshness to give the wine clarity and tension. The old vines provide substance and a long expression on the palate, while Violot-Guillemard's signature remains focused on precision and an unadulterated representation of the origin.
The result is a Volnay that does not aim to impress with power, but with finesse, depth, and balance. A characterful Pinot Noir with the added concentration of old vines and excellent potential for further bottle aging.
The Domaine Violot-Guillemard is based in neighboring Pommard and cultivates vineyards in some of the classic appellations of the Côte de Beaune. Joannès Violot-Guillemard continues his family's work with a clear focus on origin and parcel character. The vineyards are farmed organically, while winemaking in the cellar is as gentle as possible, so that the vintage and terroir are paramount in the finished wine.
