Description
The Bourgogne Chardonnay “Orane” holds a special personal significance for Galeyrand: The cuvée bears his daughter's first name. The Chardonnay comes from two small plots in Brochon and Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, which together comprise only about 0.42 hectares and are located at the lower part of the respective slopes.
With this Bourgogne Blanc, too, Galeyrand works with the same care as with his wines from the more famous appellations. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters and then fermented with natural yeasts. The wine is aged for around twelve months in Burgundian oak barrels, with the proportion of new barrels kept low. During vinification, early sulfur addition is avoided to allow the wine as much individuality and expression as possible.
The 2024 Orane is thus far more than a classic Bourgogne Chardonnay for an uncomplicated introduction. Small plots, organic vineyard work, and Galeyrand's restrained cellar philosophy result in a Chardonnay with substance and a clear Burgundian identity – precise, lively, and mineral-driven.
Jérôme Galeyrand is one of the exciting artisanal winemakers of the Côte de Nuits. As a lateral entrant without his own family winery, he started in the early 2000s with a small vineyard area and gradually built up his domaine. Today, he cultivates his plots organically and complements his work in the vineyard with biodynamic methods. In the cellar, he pursues a restrained approach with spontaneous fermentation and as few interventions as possible.
