This Pinot Noir from Meyer-Näkel, from the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE Sonnenberg vineyard, is a complex wine with earthy, herbal, and pronounced fruity aromas. Dark and red berries, a touch of cherry, pepper, and malt combine with fine acidity and distinct minerality to create a substantial wine. A Pinot Noir with fine tannins, good substance, persistence on the palate, and a juicy, mineral finish.

VDP.GROSSE LAGE designates the highest quality German vineyards. In the VDP.GROSSE LAGE Walporzheim, the wide, lower Ahr valley closes off with the consolidated vineyard areas in Neuenahr and Ahrweiler. The slopes become steeper and transition into impressive terraced vineyards, which establish the long-standing reputation of one of the Ahr's most prestigious sites.

Pinot Noir (or Spätburgunder) is the world's most popular red wine grape variety thanks to its adaptability to different flavor profiles. However, this sensitive grape demands specific growing conditions and requires the winemaker to possess all their knowledge and expertise. The labor-intensive steep slopes of the Ahr region offer ideal conditions for coaxing a balanced combination of color, fruit, and Burgundy bouquet from this grape. Only a long ripening period on the vine allows for the typical aromatics and elegant acidity and tannin structure. The slate soils of the Ahr region impart a distinctive minerality to the Pinot Noir, making it truly unique.

Old vines, sustainable vineyard management, consistent yield reduction, and gentle hand-harvesting form the basis for this wine. The yield is approximately 30 hl/ha. The grapes are carefully transported to the winery in small crates, followed by spontaneous fermentation, 20 days of maceration on the skins, and aging in barriques (30% new oak) on the fine lees for 18 months, followed by 6 months of bottle aging. Bottled unfiltered.
