Lage

The vineyards of Winkler-Hermaden extend across the southern Styrian region of Austria, benefiting from the unique geological characteristics of the soil. Primarily, the landscape is dominated by the so-called Opok soils. These sedimentary rocks, primarily composed of limestone and clay, are renowned for their excellent water retention and drainage capabilities. This creates optimal conditions for viticulture, allowing excess water to drain away while providing the vines with essential nutrients. The mineral-rich Opok soils significantly influence the character of Winkler-Hermaden's wines. They impart a distinctive minerality and a fine structure to the wines, capturing the unique terroir expression of the southern Styrian region. The combination of limestone and clay often gives the wines an elegant freshness and supports the development of complex aromas.
