Description
The Gevrey-Chambertin “Vieille Vigne” 2024 is a blend from several old plots within the appellation. The vines are on average over 80 years old, with some plantings dating back to the 1920s. It is precisely this exceptional vine age that makes this Village wine one of the characteristic bottlings of the house. The deeply rooted vines yield small quantities and give the Pinot Noir a special concentration and complexity.
The 2024 vintage in Gevrey-Chambertin was marked by challenging weather conditions and very low yields. At Fourrier, the harvest volume was significantly lower than usual. However, the remaining grapes could be carefully selected. Due to the conditions of the vintage, the Domaine decided to fully destem the red wines. Chaptalization was also forgone.
During maturation, Fourrier remains true to its restrained philosophy. The wines of the 2024 vintage are aged with only about 20% new wood, so that fruit, structure, and origin remain in focus. This results in a particularly fine Gevrey-Chambertin that combines the depth of old vines with the freshness of the vintage – elegant, precise, and with excellent development potential.
Domaine Fourrier is one of the defining producers of Gevrey-Chambertin. Since 1994, the family winery has been managed by Jean-Marie Fourrier, and his son Louis now works closely alongside him. The Domaine places particular importance on its old vine stocks: they form the basis for a style that achieves depth and concentration not through strong extraction, but through the natural potential of the vineyards.
