Description
The Pinot Noir TERROIR 2022 is one of the terroir-driven red wines from the Leo Hillinger winery in Jois. The organically farmed vineyards around the Leithaberg hills benefit from the unique interplay between the warm Pannonian climate of Lake Neusiedl and the cooler influences of the wooded mountain ranges. This creates particularly interesting conditions for Pinot Noir: sufficient warmth for uniform ripening, combined with enough freshness for an elegant structure.
The calcareous soils of this region play an important role. Pinot Noir is particularly sensitive to its location and often develops a finer, more linear style on lime-rich substrates. Hillinger therefore focuses less on pure power with the TERROIR, and more on the combination of fruit, mineral tension, and a precise tannin structure.
The grapes are carefully selected and processed gently. After fermentation, the wine matures in wood, which refines the natural structure of the Pinot Noir. The barrel aging remains integrated into the fruit, lending the wine additional depth and spice without masking the character of the grape variety.
The 2022 vintage combines ripe Pinot Noir fruit with an elegant, spicy structure. A characterful Burgenland Pinot Noir that unites the warmer style of the region with freshness, fine tannins, and chalky minerality.
