Description
The Riesling Ancestrale from Große Lagen is a powerful yet elegant premium wine that harks back to the historical style of great Rieslings. The name "Ancestrale" refers to the traditional production method, which was already established over 200 years ago by quality pioneer Andreas Jordan. By using hand-picked grapes of Auslese quality and long aging on the full lees in traditional wooden barrels, a Riesling with impressive depth, mellowness, and complexity is created.
For this high-quality Riesling from the Palatinate, only perfectly ripe grapes were selectively hand-picked and gently pressed immediately after harvesting. The must was pre-clarified by sedimentation for over 24 hours and then fermented with a slight turbidity. Spontaneous fermentation took place with natural yeasts in wooden barrels, which gives the wine additional structure and expression. After fermentation, the Riesling aged on the fine lees for several years until bottling, which gives it its exceptional texture and aromatic complexity. A fine residual sugar content ensures a harmonious balance and underlines the elegant style.
On the nose, this Riesling Ancestrale is intense and complex with aromas of fresh citrus fruits, ripe pineapple, peach, and a hint of coconut. On the palate, the wine presents itself with a silky, almost creamy texture, characterized by long yeast aging. The subtle residual sweetness is finely integrated and supported by lively acidity, creating a balanced interplay of freshness and mellowness. Nuances of honey and exotic fruits lend the wine additional depth and elegance.
