Description
The top vineyard Forster Jesuitengarten is one of the most renowned vineyards in the Pfalz region and is located on the outskirts of Forst, in direct proximity to the famous Kirchenstück and Ungeheuer vineyards. Due to its exceptionally high mineral content, it is considered one of Germany's best Riesling sites. The name dates back to the historical possession of the Jesuit monastery in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, before the site was acquired by the Jordan family in 1793. The wines from Jesuitengarten are known for their elegant style, fine structure, and impressive complexity.
The grapes for the Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling GG 2023 come from a parcel in the original core of the vineyard and were selectively hand-picked in several passes to process only optimally ripe grapes. After gentle pressing, the musts were fermented separately. 70% of the wine was aged in traditional large wooden barrels, while the remaining portion was aged in stainless steel tanks. Both batches matured on the lees after fermentation until bottling, which gives the wine additional depth and structure.
On the nose, this Grosses Gewächs Riesling from the Pfalz is fresh, precise, and inviting, with juicy Riesling fruit accompanied by a cool, dark minerality. Fine smoky notes and a subtle herbal spice lend the wine additional complexity.
On the palate, the Forster Jesuitengarten GG 2023 presents itself as concentrated yet elegant, with a firm structure and a finely structured, lively acidity. Despite its depth, the wine remains always approachable and encourages drinking, carried by inner tension and clear origin characteristics. The long, harmonious finish emphasizes the balance of power and finesse that distinguishes this Riesling.
This Riesling GG from the Pfalz combines classic elegance with precise minerality and great aging potential. It pairs excellently with fine fish dishes, veal, poultry, and modern vegetarian cuisine with root vegetables, nuts, or subtle smoky aromas. Its complexity and stylish restraint make it a noble and versatile food companion.
