The Volnay “Champans” 1er Cru 2019 from Domaine Jean-Marie Bouzereau is an elegant yet profound Pinot Noir from one of Volnay's esteemed Premier Cru vineyards. The Champans vineyard is characterized by limestone and clay soils, yielding wines that combine Volnay's typical finesse with added structure and substance.
The mature 2019 vintage already displays wonderful complexity. Juicy red fruits form the core, while floral, spicy, and increasingly earthy nuances provide additional depth. The extended aging in wood lends structure and depth to the wine without overshadowing its elegant Pinot Noir fruit.
On the palate, it presents itself as smooth and finely structured. The tannins are silky, the fruit remains clear and is supported by a pleasant freshness. With increasing maturity, in addition to cherry and red berries, darker, spicy, and slightly earthy aromas develop. The finish is long, harmonious, and elegant. A characterful Premier Cru that already shows beautiful maturity but still possesses further aging potential.
