Description
The Chassagne-Montrachet “Les Chaumées” 1er Cru 2024 comes from one of Chassagne-Montrachet's high-altitude Premier Cru appellations. Les Chaumées is located in the northern part of the appellation, towards Saint-Aubin and Puligny-Montrachet. The vineyard rises on the slope above the village and is strongly characterized by a chalky subsoil – ideal conditions for Chardonnay with freshness, tension, and a distinct mineral structure.
Precisely this origin perfectly suits Pierre Vincent's style. Instead of further emphasizing the natural power of a Chassagne-Montrachet with a lot of new wood, he focuses on precision and balance. Aging in barrels gives the wine texture and depth but deliberately remains in the background. This allows the chalky origin and the natural energy of the Chardonnay to remain clearly discernible.
In the demanding 2024 vintage, careful work in the vineyard was particularly crucial. The small quantities and consistent selection result in a Premier Cru with concentration, without losing freshness and finesse. A characterful Chassagne-Montrachet that combines depth, delicate melt, and mineral tension and possesses excellent development potential.
The Domaine Pierre Vincent in Auxey-Duresses is the personal project of a winemaker who spent a large part of his career at renowned Burgundian domaines. After his stints at Domaine de la Vougeraie and Domaine Leflaive, Pierre Vincent now focuses on small plots and a precise, origin-focused interpretation of the Côte de Beaune. Hand-picking, careful selection, and a restrained use of wood are central elements of his work.
