Description
The Monthélie “Les Sous-Roches” 2024 comes from a small Chardonnay parcel of only 0.22 hectares, planted in 1996. The vineyard is situated on a steep, east-facing slope. Calcareous clay, marl, and numerous stones characterize the subsoil, creating excellent conditions for a Chardonnay with freshness and mineral tension.
After gentle pressing, the wine is partially fermented in stainless steel and then transferred to barrels for further development. The proportion of new wood is deliberately kept low at around 15%. After about twelve months in barrels, another six months follow in stainless steel tanks. The aging process gives the Chardonnay structure and depth without masking the character of the terroir with oak aromas.
The result is a distinctly unique white Monthélie, which beautifully reflects Pierre Vincent's philosophy: small parcel, meticulous handcraft, and precise aging. The wine combines fine Burgundian finesse with the taut, mineral side of its calcareous origin.
The Domaine Pierre Vincent in Auxey-Duresses is the personal project of Pierre Vincent, who previously gained many years of experience at renowned estates such as Domaine de la Vougeraie and Domaine Leflaive. In his own domaine, he focuses on small parcels and a precise, origin-specific approach. Manual harvesting, careful selection, and restrained aging are intended to express the character of the individual vineyards as clearly as possible.
