Position
Straden lies in the southern half of the volcanic region and is characterized by rolling hills and steep vineyards. The soils consist of deep sedimentary soils (gravel, sand, clay) and weathered volcanic rock (basalt, tuff). The vineyards are situated at altitudes between 280 and 440 meters. The wines exhibit complex aromas, lively acidity, and an elegant minerality.
Grape varieties
Morillon: This is a very special Chardonnay from Styria. This Burgundy grape variety yields more robust white wines with structure, depth, and substance, often with ripe fruit and distinct minerality. Ideal for Styrian wine lovers with a slightly higher standard.

Now we're in the volcanic region at the Frauwallner winery. They not only make superb Sauvignon Blancs, but also Morillon, which is Chardonnay. And the Ried Buch is a very elegant wine – very stylish, very precise, but with tremendous power; it really packs a punch. You definitely need a larger glass, at least a Burgundy size, for the wine to truly unfold its bouquet.
