Position

The Wachau in Lower Austria is characterized by an impressive variety of soils, which is crucial for the quality of the wines. The steep terraced vineyards consist mainly of primary rock soils such as gneiss, slate and granite, which give the wines their distinctive minerality. The Riesling and Grüner Veltliner vines in particular benefit from the poor soils, which regulate the water balance and encourage the vines to root deep into the soil. This results in wines with great finesse and longevity.

Grape varieties

Neuburger is an autochthonous white wine grape variety from Austria, which is mainly grown in the Wachau, Kremstal and Thermenregion regions. It produces full-bodied wines with gentle acidity and aromas of nuts, ripe apples and pears. The wines are mostly dry and have a creamy texture with a subtle fruit profile. Neuburger is a rather rare variety that is particularly appreciated by lovers of traditional Austrian grape varieties due to its complexity and elegance. It goes well with mild cheeses and poultry dishes.
