Position

The sheltered, steep south-facing slope and its diverse, limestone-dominated soil structure are what make the VDP.Große Lage Im Großen Garten vineyard so special. It is a prime location within the VDP.Erste Lage Großkarlbacher Burgweg vineyard, situated in a still intact glacial valley where the Eckbach stream has carried various sediments, such as pebbles, sand, and loess, over the limestone bedrock for millennia – resulting in soils that alternate between soft and harder limestone, solid limestone bedrock, and the various sediments.

Grape varieties

Riesling is a first-class white wine renowned for its versatility and elegance. It typically presents an aromatic bouquet of fresh citrus fruits such as lime, grapefruit, and green apple, accompanied by floral notes like jasmine or lilac. On the palate, it is lively and refreshing, with a vibrant acidity that accentuates the fruity flavors. A defining characteristic of Riesling is its ability to express terroir and origin, which can result in a wide range of flavors from dry to sweet. Dry Rieslings are crisp and mineral, while sweet Rieslings exhibit an impressive balance between sweetness and acidity. Overall, Riesling is a refreshing and expressive wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes and is considered one of the world's finest white wines.
