Description
The Grainhübel is one of von Winning's finest and most elegant "Große Gewächse" (Grand Cru wines). Its location, directly adjacent to the top sites of Forst, is characterized by limestone, red sandstone, and basalt, yielding Rieslings that focus less on power and more on precision and finesse.
The 2023 Grainhübel is particularly clear and calm. The wine appears taut and focused, yet at the same time incredibly finely structured. Instead of opulent fruit, the emphasis here is on salty minerality, cool tension, and an almost ethereal elegance. It is precisely this subtle character that makes it so exciting.
Typical for von Winning, aging in oak barrels lends the Riesling additional depth and texture without masking the vineyard's origin. This makes the Grainhübel GG appear very precise and Burgundian in style – elegant, mineral, and with an enormously long finish.
