Position

The Riesling "vom blauen Schiefer" is the second wine from the Fahrlay area. This steep vineyard is located directly next to the Pünderich ferry dock and is the only part of the Pündericher Marienburg where blue slate predominates. This type of slate is significantly harder than gray or red slate. Initially, the vines struggle until their roots penetrate deep into the moist, water-retaining crevices of the slate plates. From there, they are well-supplied with stored water and minerals.

Grape varieties

Riesling is a top-tier white wine known for its versatility and elegance. It typically presents an aromatic bouquet of fresh citrus fruits like lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, complemented by floral notes such as jasmine or lilac. On the palate, it is lively and refreshing, with vibrant acidity that enhances its fruity flavors. A characteristic feature of Riesling is its ability to express terroir and origin, resulting in a wide range of flavors from dry to sweet. Dry Rieslings are crisp and mineral-driven, while sweet Rieslings exhibit an impressive balance between sweetness and acidity. Overall, Riesling is a refreshing and expressive wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes and is counted among the world's finest white wines.
