Lage

The vineyards of Winkler-Hermaden stretch across the southern Styrian region of Austria, benefiting from the unique geological characteristics of the soil. Predominantly, the landscape is dominated by the so-called Opok soils. These sedimentary rocks, primarily composed of limestone and clay, are known for their excellent water retention and drainage properties. This creates optimal conditions for viticulture, allowing excess water to drain away while the vines have access to essential nutrients. The mineral-rich Opok soils significantly influence the character of Winkler-Hermaden's wines, imparting a distinct minerality and fine structure that capture the unique terroir expression of the southern Styrian region. The combination of limestone and clay often imparts an elegant freshness to the wines and supports the development of complex aromas.

Rebsorten

Riesling is a premier white wine renowned for its versatility and elegance. It typically presents an aromatic bouquet of fresh citrus fruits like lime, grapefruit, and green apple, complemented by floral notes such as jasmine or lilac. On the palate, it is lively and refreshing, with a vibrant acidity that highlights the fruity flavors. A characteristic feature of Riesling is its ability to express terroir and origin, resulting in a wide range of flavors from dry to sweet. Dry Rieslings are crisp and mineral, while sweet Rieslings offer an impressive balance between sweetness and acidity. Overall, Riesling is a refreshing and expressive wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes and is considered among the finest white wines in the world.
