Description
Les Champeaux is located in the northern part of Gevrey-Chambertin, high on the slope above the village and in the immediate vicinity of other renowned Premier Cru sites. The elevated position ensures a comparatively cool microclimate and a slow ripening of the Pinot Noir grapes. The lime-rich, stony soils are rather shallow and give the wines a particularly clear, mineral-driven structure.
In Les Champeaux, Fourrier has very old Pinot Noir vines, which account for a significant part of the character of this bottling. Their deep roots and naturally low yields produce small, concentrated grapes. For Fourrier, this is precisely the foundation of great Burgundies: the necessary intensity should come from the vineyard itself and not be created by strong extraction in the cellar.
The 2024 vintage presented the Domaine with great challenges due to the humid growing season and high disease pressure. Yields were accordingly low, and consistent selection during harvest was particularly important. The result is a Les Champeaux that impresses less with massive power than with freshness, finesse, and mineral tension – a precise Premier Cru with Fourrier's typical elegant signature and excellent development potential.
The Domaine Fourrier is one of the most important producers of Gevrey-Chambertin. Jean-Marie Fourrier pursues a restrained approach, focusing on old vines, careful vineyard work, and the most authentic possible representation of the individual sites. Instead of generating power through extraction and a lot of new wood, the Domaine relies on natural concentration, fine tannins, and precision.
