Description
"Clos du Roy" is one of Marsannay's most renowned vineyards and, even as a white wine, displays a particularly precise and terroir-driven style. The chalky soils in the north of the Côte de Nuits lend the Chardonnay a striking saline minerality and a cool, elegant tension. Jean Fournier deliberately interprets the site puristically and with a strong focus on transparency, balance, and Burgundian finesse.
In 2023, the wine appears lively and energetic, yet incredibly calm and harmoniously structured. The Chardonnay combines subtle ripeness with fresh minerality and a very clear, linear structure. Despite its depth, the wine never feels heavy or broad, but incredibly precise and elegant. It is precisely this combination of tension, freshness, and mineral clarity that makes the "Clos du Roy" blanc particularly characterful.
The aging remains subtle and exceptionally well-integrated, ensuring that origin and vintage take center stage uncompromisingly. As a result, the Marsannay blanc exhibits a very classic Côte de Nuits style – mineral, elegant, and with a long, finely saline finish.
