"La Viallière" is one of Jean-Michel Gerin's most distinctive sites, showcasing the particularly elegant and terroir-driven side of Côte-Rôtie. The steep, slate-rich slopes lend the Syrah a striking mineral tension, floral finesse, and an exceptionally precise structure. Jean-Michel Gerin consciously interprets the site in a classic style – focusing on balance, transparency, and Burgundian elegance rather than mere power.
The 2023 vintage is lively, open, and incredibly harmoniously structured. The Syrah combines ripe dark fruit with fine spice, floral nuances, and a silky tannin structure. Despite its intensity, "La Viallière" never appears heavy or massive, but rather very clear and elegantly delineated. It is precisely this combination of Rhône character, mineral freshness, and ethereal delicacy that makes the 2023 vintage particularly fascinating.
