Description
The Halenberg is one of the most monumental Riesling sites in the Nahe and produces wines that combine power, depth, and precision with exceptional finesse. The steep slate, quartzite, and volcanic weathered soils around Monzingen give the wine enormous mineral tension and an almost smoky complexity. Emrich-Schönleber interprets the Halenberg with impressive clarity and elegance rather than mere brute force.
The 2023 vintage of this "Grosses Gewächs" (Grand Cru) is incredibly focused and energetic. The Riesling appears dense and profound, yet at the same time crystal clear and vibrant. Instead of expressive fruit, the Halenberg clearly focuses on herbal spice, salty minerality, and a precise, almost stony structure. With aeration, the wine develops additional calm and enormous complexity without losing its tension.
The vinification remains deliberately puristic and restrained, allowing the terroir to take center stage without compromise. As a result, the Halenberg GG displays a very distinctive Nahe style – powerful yet elegant, mineral, with a long, vibrant finish and exceptional aging potential.
