Description
Les Goulots is a high-altitude Premier Cru in the northern part of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vineyard is located on the upper slope, above Combe aux Moines and in close proximity to Les Champeaux. Due to its elevated position and the influence of the Combe, conditions here are comparatively cool. The Pinot Noir grapes ripen slowly, thus preserving freshness and a particularly precise structure.
The soils are characterized by limestone and marl and have only a relatively thin topsoil. Compared to the more robust terroirs of Gevrey, Les Goulots therefore often produces a finer, more linear interpretation of the appellation. It is precisely this combination of cool location, calcareous subsoil, and old vines that perfectly suits Fourrier's understated winemaking approach.
The challenging 2024 vintage demanded intensive work in the vineyard and strict selection of the grapes. The low yields ensure natural concentration, while the character of the vintage maintains freshness and tension. Fourrier's Les Goulots 2024 therefore presents itself not as a particularly massive Gevrey, but as a fine, mineral, and precise Premier Cru, whose depth develops primarily through structure and length.
The Domaine Fourrier is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most distinctive producers. Under Jean-Marie Fourrier, a style emerged where old vines and the differences between individual parcels are clearly at the forefront. Cellar work remains deliberately restrained: concentration should come from the vineyard, while extraction and oak usage should obscure the origin as little as possible.
