Description
The Volnay “Ez Blanches” 2024 comes from a mere 0.343-hectare parcel that was already planted with Pinot Noir in 1959. The vineyard faces southeast and is characterized by light, highly calcareous marl soils. The name of the site also goes back to these strikingly light soils: "Ez" is an old linguistic form of "En les," so the name literally refers to the "white soils."
In the vineyard, the Domaine relies on cultivated and subsequently greened soils, minimal intervention, and consistent manual harvesting with careful selection. For the 2024 vintage, 50% of the grapes are vinified as whole bunches. A cool pre-fermentation phase is followed by about 15 days of maceration.
The subsequent aging takes place over 18 months in oak barrels, with about 20% new wood used. After that, the wine is transferred to stainless steel tanks again before bottling. In this way, Pierre Vincent combines the fine, elegant style of Volnay with the tension of the high-altitude, calcium-rich parcel – a precise Pinot Noir from old vines with remarkable structure and development potential.
With the Domaine Pierre Vincent, Pierre Vincent has built his own project in Auxey-Duresses after his formative years at Domaine de la Vougeraie and Domaine Leflaive. The Domaine covers only about seven hectares, spread over numerous small Climats of the Côte de Beaune. Each parcel is vinified separately – with the aim of clearly highlighting differences in soil, exposure, and vintage.
