"Les Champs-Gain" is one of the highest-situated Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet and produces particularly elegant and mineral Chardonnays. The calcareous soils impart a distinctive salty tension and a cool, precise structure to the wine, which clearly distinguishes it from the often more powerful and broader Chassagne styles. Vincent & François Jouard deliberately interpret the site in a classic, terroir-driven manner – with a focus on balance, freshness, and Burgundian finesse.
In 2023, the Premier Cru is incredibly vibrant and energetic, yet at the same time calm and harmoniously structured. The Chardonnay combines subtle ripeness with fresh minerality and a very clear, linear structure. Despite its depth, the wine never appears heavy or opulent, but incredibly focused and elegant. It is precisely this combination of tension and ethereal finesse that makes "Les Champs-Gain" particularly fascinating.
The oak aging remains discreet and excellently integrated, ensuring that the origin and vintage take center stage uncompromisingly. As a result, the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru displays a grand Côte-de-Beaune style – mineral, elegant, and with a long, salty-elegant finish.
