"La Maltroie" is one of Chassagne-Montrachet's centrally located Premier Cru sites, combining the appellation's typical depth with a particularly refined and elegant structure. The limestone and marl-rich soils lend the Chardonnay a distinctive salty minerality and a precise, terroir-driven tension. Vincent & François Jouard deliberately interpret the site in a classic and restrained manner – focusing on balance, clarity, and Burgundian finesse rather than opulent power.
In 2023, the Premier Cru presents itself as vibrant and energetic, yet incredibly calm and harmoniously structured. The Chardonnay combines fine ripeness with fresh minerality and a very clear, linear structure. Despite its concentration, the wine never appears heavy or broad, but rather incredibly precise and elegant. It is precisely this combination of Chassagne depth and ethereal delicacy that gives "La Maltroie" its distinctive character.
The oak aging remains subtle and exceptionally well-integrated, ensuring that the origin and vintage take uncompromising center stage. As a result, the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru displays a grand Côte de Beaune style – mineral, elegant, with a long, salty-elegant finish and great aging potential.
