Description
The Kastanienbusch Köppel is one of the coolest and finest parcels within the famous Kastanienbusch site. The red slate and colorful sandstone soils around Birkweiler give the Riesling an exceptionally precise minerality and an almost smoky, stony tension. Compared to other Kastanienbusch parcels, the Köppel often appears even more filigree and characterized by greater finesse.
In 2023, the Grand Cru shows itself to be incredibly clear and vibrant. The wine appears taut and focused, yet at the same time profound and almost ethereal in its nature. Instead of expressive fruit, Dr. Wehrheim deliberately opts for herbal spice, salty minerality, and a cool, elegant structure.
The vinification remains deliberately puristic and understated, so that the origin is uncompromisingly at the forefront. As a result, the Kastanienbusch Köppel GG displays enormous precision, fine tension, and a long, mineral finish with great aging potential.
